PCD and CVD Diamond Tools
Polycrystalline diamond (PCD) is produced by sintering diamond particles and cobalt under extremely high pressure and temperature. Diamond crystals ranging from 1 to 30 μm are bonded within a metallic matrix, resulting in a material with exceptional toughness and wear resistance.
These characteristics make PCD particularly suitable for machining non-ferrous metals, aluminum alloys, composites, and engineering plastics. Certain PCD grades can also be used successfully for machining carbide and ceramic materials.
CVD diamond is manufactured through a controlled Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) process, in which carbon atoms are deposited from a gaseous phase to form a pure diamond structure. Unlike PCD, CVD diamond contains no metallic binder phase, creating a continuous diamond lattice throughout the material.
Thanks to its superior hardness and abrasion resistance, CVD diamond enables the production of tools with exceptionally sharp cutting edges using advanced laser machining technologies. Our CVD tools are ideally suited for turning, milling, and drilling highly abrasive materials while maintaining outstanding tool life and machining performance.
CBN (Cubic Boron Nitride) is a thermally stable cutting material specifically designed for machining ferrous metals and powder-metallurgical materials where diamond tools are not suitable.
